Inferno is Igniting a Culture of Evangelization that Empowers Men to Lead in the Battle to Sainthood.
Since our inception in 2017, Inferno has been empowering and gathering men to submit to the Holy Spirit and answer the Great Commission: “Go make disciples of all nations!” – Matt 28:19 This call started with a small group (COR, “heart”) doing “lectio divina” prayer together and has extended upward and out like an unquenchable fire as the Inferno Mission has grown throughout Colorado Springs.
Inferno now hosts 7 COR Groups, weekly Holy Hour, bi-monthly Men’s Forums & JOHN17 Fight Club events, VDay and Christmas Parties, Summit and Forest Masses, Hikes, Campouts & MANventures, Pizza Sundays (monthly), Upper Room FIRE, Paintball, an Annual Retreat, Pledge and Men’s Conference, and countless meet-ups, mixers, coffees, pints and events by invitation to draw men deeper into relationship with each other and with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The vision for Inferno began in early 2000 as Tom Waits experienced unique and powerful brotherhood in Denver, CO orchestrated by numerous devout Christian Men and Archbishop Chaput.
As men aged, moved and started their own families and ministries, Tom set out on a search for the ideal Men’s Ministry to recapture this environment that produced immeasurable fruit. As Tom’s family grew, so did his doubt that what he was seeking would ever be found despite his involvement in Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, That Man is You, FOCUS, Wild at Heart, Promise Keepers and Marked Men for Christ. While a lot of these ministries were excellent, with many strengths, they did not fully produce that environment of evangelization and fellowship to satisfy Tom’s longing for greater mission and impact for the Kingdom.
In 2015 Luke moved to Colorado Springs with his young, growing family to pursue his pro soccer career. Luke is an on-fire Catholic with formation from Opus Dei and FOCUS and had just begun a ministry encouraging proactive faith and fierce holiness called “Be A Saint” or “beAst.”
With his active family, businesses he managed, ministry and soccer career, Luke felt too busy to get involved in anything else util he met David Theis … Dave just moved to Colorado Springs in 2016 and was eager to build up a vibrant Catholic Community that rivaled his culture in Steubenville (Franciscan University), OH. When Dave met Luke their families fell in love right away! Dave said, “so what are you doing for men’s ministry here?” to which Luke, replied “I’m tapped out.” Well, Dave didn’t accept that answer and he continued to look around and encourage Luke to do more, UNTIL … Dave met Tom.
Their first coffee meet-up lit the coffee house up in smoke and they left committed to building a powerful gathering of men in COS. They brought in Luke and Josh Durow (former seminarian who led young adult ministry) and had their first “COR” group on November 13th, 2017. It was that night Tom asked, what should we call this movement of the Holy Spirit and David quickly blurted out, “INFERNO”! … and the rest is in HIS hands
